It seems like westerns are changing. Now there are lots of movies and books with a supernatural element to them. This title says it all, Cowboy Werewolf Massacre.
Loved the beginning of this one. Some men are chasing a man. Or kind of a man. Yep, a werewolf.
He leaves a trail of ripped up bodies behind as he taunts the pursuers.
The author did some great character building in the beginning and I came to know them quickly. From watching so many movies I could easily picture the scenes and even put faces to some of them.
As the plot thickens, and yes, it does, more characters come into play, an important event is explained, and all hell breaks loose. Want to know what really happened the night Chicago burned?
You have werewolves and cowboys, good guys and bad guys, and some political maneuvering thrown in to add to the intrigue.
All in all a good read. I felt like the ending was a bit rushed. A lot was happening and it was over quickly.
Yet, I should keep in mind this is a short story and the author did give me a good ending. One that could lead to more in this tale. I hope so.

Cowboy Werewolf Massacre edition by John Wheeler Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
I liked this book,it was pretty good. You have to disregard your thinking on how a werewolf should act. And just go with the story.
This book was as fun as it sounds, which is to say, a great deal of fun!
It's a rollicking fast paced story with all the great elements of a good western coupled with the thrills of a good werewolf yarn.
Uneven. When one of the main characters goes by two names it gets messy in figuring out who's talking to whom. Forget the fact that metal smithing isn't as easy as 'I'll give you gold for whatever silver you have' and then there are bullets, well... Uneven.
The title is "Cowboy Werewolf Massacre", and that's exactly what the book delivers cowboys, werewolves, and plenty of gore. It doesn't bring anything especially innovate or new to the werewolf genre, but it's a good, solid, pulpy supernatural adventure story.
With a title like this, you already know what to expect. The characters are cardboard puppets and the plot is generally predictable. You have the steely eyed square jawed outlaw hero, the spunky wife who shoots and fights, and the rascally sidekicks. And there's the dastardly villain with a beef against the government. So yes, you've read this before in one form or other.
Expectations aside, what detracts further from the book is the rushed storytelling and the slips in the points of view and in the tense. The story reads like an outline or draft for a much longer and fully fleshed book.
The title is amazing but the characters are stock tropes pulled from every conceivable melodrama. I was waiting for the author to describe the bad guy wearing a cape and twirling a waxed mustache going "muahahahaha".
The author also has a convoluted mythology surrounding various shapeshifters. He parses them out in one early scene but does not elaborate on them at all. The whole thing felt horribly twisted and wrong.
This is a poorly written, GOOD IDEA/PLOT that was wasted on this author.
Do you like werewolf stories, or are you partial to westerns? Are you tired of the same old werewolf stories or the same westerns? Well then you'll like this novella John Wheeler crafted. Both melded into one fun read with a hint of more to come. I forgot. Throw in some historical fact twisted to meet the needs of the story. It seems the Chicago Fire may not have been started by Mrs. O'Leary's cow. My only problem was it should have been a bit longer. Some of the story was hastened a bit confusing me and for some reason I had a hard time getting to know the characters but that was just me. Get to know John Wheeler and his quirky sense of humor mixed with a whole lot of action. I enjoyed this introduction to him.
